Crypto Withdrawal Failed: How to Fix It

Why crypto and INR withdrawals fail or stay pending

Separate the two kinds of withdrawal

"Withdrawal failed" describes two different problems with different causes, and treating them the same wastes time.

TypeWhat movesWhere it can break
Crypto withdrawalCoins to an external addressExchange queue, then the blockchain
INR withdrawalRupees to your bankExchange queue, then the banking system

Crypto withdrawal stuck or failed

  1. Is there a transaction hash? If not, the funds have not left the exchange and the problem is on its side.
  2. If there is a hash, check it on the block explorer. Confirmed means the exchange has done its part; the issue is at the destination. See deposit not credited.
  3. Security hold. Most exchanges lock withdrawals for 24 hours after a password change, a new device, or a newly added allowlist address.
  4. Allowlist mismatch. If withdrawal allowlisting is enabled, the destination must be on it.
  5. Below minimum or above your verification tier's limit.
  6. Network congestion or maintenance — exchanges pause withdrawals on a chain during upgrades.

INR withdrawal not arriving

The causes here are almost always banking-side.

  • Name mismatch between exchange account, PAN and bank account — the single most common cause.
  • Wrong account or IFSC, in which case the transfer is usually returned within a few working days.
  • Bank holiday or non-working hours for NEFT; IMPS generally works outside these.
  • Exchange review of a first or unusually large withdrawal.
  • Account-level restriction pending verification.

For an INR withdrawal that the exchange shows as processed but your bank has not credited, get the UTR reference from the exchange and give it to your bank. The UTR is what lets them trace it.

What to send support

A ticket with these details resolves far faster than one without:

  • Withdrawal ID or reference from the exchange
  • Transaction hash and network, for a crypto withdrawal
  • UTR, for an INR withdrawal
  • Amount, asset and exact timestamp with timezone
  • Destination address or bank account details as entered

What not to do

  1. Do not retry immediately. A duplicate withdrawal complicates reconciliation and can take longer to unwind than the original takes to resolve.
  2. Do not accept help from anyone who contacts you. Support never initiates contact. People with stuck withdrawals are targeted specifically.
  3. Never share a seed phrase, password or 2FA code with anyone, including someone claiming to be support.
  4. Do not pay a fee to "release" a withdrawal. On a legitimate platform, withdrawals are never unlocked by an additional payment. That demand is the defining feature of fake trading apps.

That last point matters most. If a platform is asking for a tax, fee or further deposit before releasing your funds, the problem is not a stuck withdrawal — the platform is fraudulent and no further payment will change that.

First withdrawals are treated differently

Almost every exchange applies extra scrutiny to a first withdrawal, a first withdrawal to a new address or bank account, and the first withdrawal after any security change. What feels like a failure is frequently a review that clears on its own.

This is the argument for testing a small withdrawal early, while nothing is urgent. Discovering a document or name problem during a market move, with a large balance to move, is the worst version of it.

Withdrawal limits by verification tier

Exchanges cap daily and monthly withdrawals by verification level, and the cap is often the real reason a withdrawal is refused rather than anything being broken. Raising the limit means completing deeper verification, which takes time — so check your tier before you need the headroom, not after.

Keep the record either way

Whether the withdrawal succeeds, fails or is returned, keep the reference, the timestamps and any ticket correspondence. In India each transfer needs its own entry for Schedule VDA, and a failed or reversed withdrawal that leaves a trace in your statements is exactly the kind of thing that is hard to explain later without documentation.
