What is a Bull Market?

A bull market is a period when crypto prices are rising steadily and investor sentiment is optimistic. In traditional finance, a bull market is typically defined as a rise of 20% or more from a recent low. In crypto, the term is used more loosely - a bull market (or "bull run") often refers to a sustained period of months or years where most major cryptocurrencies are at or trending toward new all-time highs.

Why a "Bull"?

The term comes from the way a bull attacks: it thrusts its horns upward. A bull market = prices moving up. (Conversely, a bear swipes its paw downward - bear market = prices moving down.)

Signs of a Crypto Bull Market

• Bitcoin is making new all-time highs or approaching them.
• Media coverage is extremely positive - crypto is on national news channels, friends and relatives ask you how to buy Bitcoin.
• Altcoins are rising faster than Bitcoin (altcoin season).
• New investors are entering the market in large numbers.
• Crypto-related searches on Google India spike significantly.
• Trading volumes on CoinDCX and Binance India are at record highs.

Bitcoin Halving and Bull Markets

Historically, Bitcoin has entered a bull market roughly 12-18 months after each halving event (when Bitcoin mining rewards are cut in half, reducing new supply). The halvings of 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024 were each followed by major bull runs. However, past performance does not guarantee future results.

Advice for Indian Investors in a Bull Market

• Do not FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) into extreme speculation at the top.
• Take some profits gradually as prices rise - reinvest or convert to stablecoins.
• Remember that what goes up fast in a bull market often falls just as fast in the correction that follows.
