What is Sui?
Sui (SUI) is a Layer 1 blockchain developed by Mysten Labs, a team of former Meta engineers who also worked on the Diem blockchain project alongside the Aptos team (both projects share the Move language heritage but diverged in architecture). Sui launched its mainnet in May 2023.
Sui's key innovation is its object-centric data model. Instead of tracking account balances like most blockchains, Sui tracks "objects" - digital assets with clear ownership. When two transactions don't affect the same objects, they can be processed in parallel and even achieve instant finality without going through the full consensus process. This makes Sui extremely fast for simple transactions like transfers and game actions.
Sui Ecosystem and Gaming
Sui has attracted significant attention from gaming projects because its object model maps naturally to game assets (items, characters, power-ups). DeepBook (Sui's native order book), Cetus (DEX), and Scallop (lending) are leading DeFi protocols on Sui. The Sui Name Service (SuiNS) provides human-readable wallet addresses.
