Kaspa (KAS)
The fastest Proof of Work blockchain - Bitcoin speed without the wait.
What is Kaspa?
Kaspa (KAS) is a Proof of Work cryptocurrency launched in 2021, developed by Yonatan Sompolinsky - the original inventor of the GHOST protocol that influenced Ethereum's design. Kaspa uses a novel data structure called "blockDAG" (block Directed Acyclic Graph) where multiple blocks can be created simultaneously and all are included in the chain rather than orphaned - unlike Bitcoin where competing blocks are discarded.
This approach allows Kaspa to produce 1 block per second (with plans to scale to 10 per second or higher) while maintaining full Proof of Work security. The result is a PoW blockchain with significantly faster confirmation times than Bitcoin, while maintaining the decentralisation and security properties that make PoW attractive.
Kaspa Mining in India
Kaspa uses the kHeavyHash algorithm, which was initially GPU-friendly. However, ASIC miners for Kaspa have since been developed and dominate mining. Indian miners with GPU rigs should check current mining profitability carefully, as ASIC competition has reduced GPU returns significantly. The Kaspa community maintains an active mining calculator at kaspa.org.
KAS for Indian Investors
KAS is available on Bybit, Bitget, KuCoin, and MEXC. It is not yet listed on CoinDCX or all major Indian-accessible exchanges, so check availability before investing. Kaspa's community is growing rapidly in India due to its Bitcoin-like PoW security model combined with faster block times. Its fair launch (no premine, no ICO) is seen as a positive by decentralisation advocates.
Pros for Indian Investors
- Proof of Work security with 1 block per second confirmation
- Fair launch - no premine, no ICO, no VC allocation
- Novel GHOSTDAG technology with strong academic foundation
- Growing community with strong mining interest globally
Cons to Consider
- ASICs now dominate mining - GPU miners disadvantaged
- No smart contract capability - purely a store of value / payment coin
- Limited exchange availability for Indian investors
