Best Crypto Exchange for Beginners in India
Which crypto exchange is easiest to start with in India
For a first purchase, the features that matter are not the ones experienced traders optimise for. Direct INR deposit, straightforward KYC and automatic tax handling matter far more than a fraction of a basis point in fees.

Ratings are from our own reviews and reflect the criteria set out in the methodology. CoinDCX is the FIU-IND registered option with direct rupee deposit; Binance, Bybit and Bitget are the largest international platforms used from India.
What actually matters when starting out
- Direct INR deposit. Being able to fund from UPI or IMPS removes the entire P2P process, which is where most beginners encounter difficulty — including the risk of a frozen bank account.
- FIU-IND registration. A registered platform operates inside the Indian regulatory framework and handles 1% TDS automatically, so it appears in your Form 26AS without you doing anything.
- Clear KYC. PAN and Aadhaar verification, usually completed within a day.
- Support that answers. The value of this only becomes apparent when something goes wrong.
- A simple interface. Platforms built around derivatives present a great deal of complexity a first-time buyer does not need.
What to ignore at the start
- Leverage and futures. A different activity entirely, and the fastest way for a beginner to lose money.
- Coin count. Hundreds of listings are not an advantage when you are buying one of the largest assets.
- Native token discounts. These require holding a token you may not want.
- Yield products. Advertised returns carry risks that are not obvious at the start.
A sensible first sequence
- Register on an FIU-registered Indian exchange and complete KYC.
- Deposit a small amount you are entirely comfortable losing.
- Buy a major asset with a limit order.
- Record the date, quantity and INR cost — you will need it for Schedule VDA.
- Withdraw a small amount to a wallet you control, to learn the process while the stakes are low.
Tax applies wherever you trade
One point worth repeating because it is so often misunderstood: if you are an Indian tax resident, gains are taxable in India at 30% under Section 115BBH whether the platform is Indian or offshore. Using a foreign exchange does not change the liability — it only removes the automatic TDS deduction and moves the entire compliance burden onto you.
See using foreign exchanges from India for the Schedule FA considerations, which carry materially larger penalties than ordinary tax errors.
How to evaluate any exchange yourself
Reviews go out of date. The criteria below do not, and applying them takes a few minutes:
- Registration. Is the platform FIU-IND registered, or registered with a comparable regulator elsewhere?
- Proof of reserves. Does it publish verifiable evidence of holding customer assets, covering liabilities as well as assets?
- Withdrawal behaviour under stress. How did it behave during previous market turmoil? Withdrawal delays are the earliest visible symptom of trouble.
- Depth on your pairs. Look at the order book for what you actually trade, not the headline volume figure.
- Support responsiveness. Test it before you need it.
- Fee schedule in full. Trading, withdrawal, conversion and any inactivity charges.
The single most informative test is cheap: deposit a small amount, trade it, and withdraw it. A platform that handles that smoothly has demonstrated more than any review can.
